FAQ
1. How much are you paid?
Our department relies completely on volunteers, our firefighters, board members and event planners are completely unpaid.
2. How many hours do you have to commit to be a firefighter?
Our firefighters train every Tuesday night from 6:30-9:00pm. You are expected to show up to at least 80% of training through out the year. This may include an occasional extra weekend practice when necessary. The Ontario standards state that a volunteer firefighter must complete 210 hours of service in a year.
3. Where can I find a copy of the budget?
A copy of the budget can be found on the link above labelled Annual Budget
4. What is our service area?
Please see section above labelled "Coverage Map"
5. Minimum age requirement
To be a volunteer firefighter you must be at least 18 years of age or older. However those under age are more than welcome to come and volunteer for our fundraising events to earn volunteer hours towards their high school diploma.
6. How can I help?
As previously stated we are a 100% volunteer based department so any time and energy you can give would be greatly appreciated. Send us an email through the "Contact page" or reach out through our facebook account to get more details on volunteer opportunities. Donations are also GREATLY appreciated. Donations can be made via cash or cheque and delivered to the fire hall (9775 Estaire road) or VIA email transfer at estairefirebrigade@gmail.com
7. What is the green flashing light?
Volunteer firefighters use a green flashing light when they are responding to an emergency. Although it is not a law under the highway traffic act it is a courtesy to pull over and let them pass. They are on their way to save someones life or property. You could be the difference between getting their on time or too late. See a green flashing light? Move over!
